Youth on The Move in Hillyard…Part 1 by Luke Tolley & Dave Griswold
In the past couple of weeks, the history
lesson that is Hillyard has been renewed once again. Students from Shaw
Middle School visited the Hillyard Heritage Museum to learn more about
Hillyard’s past. They then roamed the streets of our town querying
Hillyardites about their community’s history in order to complete their
assignment. Who was the first Mayor of Hillyard? What was the name of
the original bank in Hillyard? What year did Hillyard become a part of
the city of Spokane? The students spent several hours and visited many
shops, but were successful in completing their assignment and learned a
lot about their neighborhood in the process.
