Hillyard Community Leaders Aid Store Owners During Difficult Time.

When Marvin Peterson's wife, Vicki, was hospitalized a few weeks ago, he
nearly closed the Hillyard Variety, a small shop on North Market Street that provides space for various neighborhood vendors.

But leaders in the Hillyard community quickly stepped up and started taking over shifts at the front counter while the Petersons confront a life-threatening condition – Vicki Peterson needs a lung transplant.  Read more from Mike Prager of the Spokesman-Review.

From the Inlander: Highway to Hillyard

The railroad lines were the arteries that pumped Hillyard full of life. Jobs, money, an influx of new residents — they all stemmed from railroad tycoon James J. Hillyard Festival Association Meeting
2nd and 4th Tuesdays of every month, 6:30pm, Northeast Community Center 4001 N Cook St. Come help us prepare for the 2009 Hillyard Festival Association.  If you are interested in having fun, building community and bringing first class events to our neighborhood, please come join us.

Greater Hillyard Business Association
2nd Wednesdays  of every month, 6:30pm, Northeast Community Center, 4001 N Cook St. The Greater Hillyard Business Association's mission is to promote new and existing businesses and economic development in Hillyard and surrounding areas, to promote greater Hillyard as a desirable location to live, work, shop and play and to organize community business throughout Greater Hillyard, to create a VOICE respected in the Region.  Come join us!

Hillyard Neighborhood Council Meeting
3rd Wednesdays of every month, 6:30pm, Northeast Community Center 4001 N Cook St. The Hillyard Neighborhood Council is responsible for communication between the neighborhood and the City.  Did you know neighborhood councils are called for by the City Charter?  They are an integral part of our City government that our new Mayor embraces whole-heartedly.  Come see what you are missing.

Hillyard Steering Committee Meeting
Last Thursday of every month, 7:00pm, Northeast Community Center 4001 N Cook St. The Hillyard Steering Committee is responsible for dispersing the funds given to Hillyard from the City Community Development funds.  The HSC meets the last Thursday of every month.
