HILLYARD ROLLER DERBY!
VS
Pretty Deadlys VS Toothless Annies was the banner headline Saturday, June 16th, at Market Street Market. These two teams of lovely ladies with buns of steel and names like Rocket Bye Baby, Ryden Dirty, Ida B Cho Azz, and Shelby Sorry rocked and rolled three rounds to the raucous cheers of a full house.
The doors opened at 6:30 to the sounds of Laylah’s Drink and a long line of excited spectators. Once the action got started, team mascots riled up the crowd while the Master of Ceremonies bounced all over the floor screaming out the players moves in this very close bout. Fans of every age yelled their support from all around for their favorite skaters. The crowd went wild when two rivals got into a cat fight on the rink!
The Lilac City Roller Girls call Market Street Market home and hold their practices there every Monday and Wednesday night. Children play and husbands watch while wives and mothers sharpen their skills. MSM is proud to be able to provide the kind of space and atmosphere that allows this awesome group to do their thing. The passion, the energy, the dedication of these women and their families to create this event is a credit to all of Spokane. The Lilac City Roller Girls are outstanding in every way!
Market Street Market would like to thank all of the current LCRG sponsors: Gretchen’s Hair Studio, O’Doherty’s, the Zombie Room, Trent N’ Dale Pub, Serina Hair with Attitude, Ichabods East, Romi Banna Realtor, Woodland Home Lending, Howe’s Auto, Merlyn’s, Spanky’s Espresso, Other Mothers Clothing, United Hillyard Antique Mall, Greenburo Custom Screen Printing, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, Battle Ground Games, Time Bomb Collectibles, Al Paulsen Licensing, American Muffler, Shamrock Tattoo, Mootsy’s, Brooklyn Deli, Boo Radley’s, Hall of Flame Custom Pin Striping, B & B Auto Group, and the Comet. EVERYBODY GOES LOWCOS!
The rappers, they rocked it, the streets where they talked it. Ev’ryone went Lowcos at the Market Street Market.
O.K. I’m not so great at Hip-Hop. But the participants in the 12th Annual Lowcos Low Rider Car Show were fantastic! All day rain couldn’t keep the cars or crowds away. The autos bobbed and bounced into the buildings and the show was on! With the scent of killer burritos in the air, StreetStars rap groups performed for a wonderfully diverse and enthusiastic audience. Children danced, owners pranced, taking a chance on the judges’ glance. Oops. That one just slipped out… Anyway, Low Riders cruised in from as far away as Oregon and joined with local talent. Particularly exciting for me was the Car Hop. Those of us whom had never seen this contest live before were, like, all about that action! But the creative displays capped the event. Glass, chrome, and airbrushed art. Baubles, bling, and blossoms all around. Special kudos to the small constituency of low rider bicycle contestants.
Market Street Market is proud to have had the opportunity to partner with the Lowcos and the StreetStars members. These folks stepped in to help prepare the venue, and then swooped up the results when the event was done. They brought Hillyard a quality, organized, exciting show. No runs, no drips. M.S.M invites them to hold lucky number 13 in our house.
The streets are talkin’. Yo.
