Cleaning for Spring
reprinted from The Advocate, April 2006
To help encourage cleaning activity in Northeast
Spokane, the Hillyard Neighborhood Council will be giving away dump
passes at COPS-NE.
“It’s part of getting our community ready for summer and all the great
activities that accompany it.” said council Chair Dave Griswold in
making the announcement of the availability of the passes. “This is what
we can do to help.”
The passes can be used between April 22nd and May 7th and will provide a
total of $25.00 credit at any city transfer station.
According to Griswold, a driver’s license and a current Avista
residential power bill will be necessary to verify address eligibility.
Recipients must live in the Hillyard neighborhood. A limited number of
dump passes are available and will be awarded on a first come first
serve basis.
RSVP, the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program, will also be helping with
clean up activities designed to assist seniors and physically challenged
residents with the removal of household hazardous waste. Spring House
Greening mobilizes volunteers, neighborhood councils, COPS programs to
make this a truly neighborhood event.
Seniors who would like to have automotive fluids, batteries, lawn and
garden products, paint products, pesticides and solvents properly
removed and disposed of for them, can call 532-7645 and leave a message.
A hotline volunteer will call back to schedule the pickup. Spring House
Greening takes place the Saturday after Earth Day in April.
This year’s Earth Day event will take place April 22nd at Riverfront
Park’s Gondola Meadows. An Environmental Film Festival will be offered
in the City of Spokane’s Council Chambers.
