CLIQUE' OR COMMUNITY

What is this really all about? Just what really happens within small civic entities that... ummm, work? Dictionary explanation of the notorious term "clique'" means "small, exclusive group." The word exclusive is the hang up here. Maybe I'm just blonde but until recently, in my ten years of community involvement, I never saw any active general exclusion. Hillyard Festival Set to Rock the Rails

The Hillyard Festival and Hi-Jinks Parade are just around the corner. Ever changing, while remaining the same family oriented neighborhood celebration, this year’s festival promises to be one of the best in recent years.

No one is quite sure when it all got started but by 1913 there was an annual Harvest festival held the first weekend of October. Hillyardites and local farmers gathered to celebrate the harvests bounty, socialize and stock up supplies for winter. By 1926, when Hillyard was annexed into Spokane, the festivities were held in September...

Museum Raffle

The COPS Shop is sponsoring a raffle with proceeds going to assist Fire and Rail Museum with expenses. Tickets can be purchased at the COP Shop, Bank of America, Big Sky's, and Howe's Auto Service. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. Tickets will also be available at the Hillyard Festival, Saturday, August 6th and Sunday, August 7th. Drawing will be held on Sunday, August 7th at Harmon Park at 4 P.M.

Slick's 1st Annual Car Wash
Slicks Food & Spirits is hosting a fundraiser for ARMS (Abuse Recovery Ministry Services), a non-profit organization in Hillyard, providing free educational counseling and awareness programs to individuals faced with domestic abuse. ARMS uses biblical principals to encourage beliefs and behaviors that heal and promote healthy life styles. The 1st Annual Car Wash Fundraiser will be held Saturday, July 30th 2005, 9 am to 4 pm. The Hillyard Festival Hi-jinx Parade
Saturday, August 6th starting at 10:00 a.m. in downtown Hillyard.  The parade will follow Market Street a couple of blocks north of Wellesley, ending at Harmon Park across the street from Market Street Market.

SCC Art Exhibit
"The Bomber, Me," featuring about 20 paintings by SFCC English instructor Tom Gribble, June 27-Aug. 19. The exhibit explores the complexity and tragedy of suicide bombers.
