Flower Power Hillyard Style
by Karen Tuininga
As a result of the most recent Historic
Hillyard Partnership meeting, chaired by Sandy Martin, all of the
planter boxes from Broad to Diamond are planted with violets. Luke
Tolley's mom gently took them from her garden space and they have been

“Wow,
you must spend a lot of time in the chat rooms…” I
hear from over my shoulder.
“Naw, why do you say that?” I reply, typing away
inputting this new customer’s info into our

wheel spinning, Market Street Market opened for the third season May
6th. If I may say, what a long strange trip it's been! Along the way we

Our Past, Present and Future...
"Nearly two generations ago the giant of
western railroading - James J. Hill - began
his march across the forbidding northern
wilderness then separating the railhead at
Havre, Montana, and the frontier fur trading
post which had become Spokane."
The above is an
excerpt from the brochure commemorating the
grand opening of Great Northern's new
Hillyard Diesel Shop in November of 1954.
This is just one piece of memorabilia that
United Hillyard Mall loaned to
Historic-Hillyard.com so that we could scan
and publish for all to view.

production companies and discussing the progress of the fund

Kiwanis
Kiwanis is a community service club and
organization of men and women who
respond to the needs of their community.
We are
currently organizing a Kiwanis club in
Hillyard. We will have several Kiwanians
calling on businesses the week of May
9th to talk to you about Kiwanis and the
things we do in our communities.
Currently, we are involved with a major
emphasis program in the greater Spokane
area that includes Hillyard.
Please
call if you have any questions or if you
would like additional information.
