Hillyard Businesses...
What Are You Thinking?
by Karen Tuininga

The hue and cry in Hillyard is "HOW?!" How do we come together to accomplish all of the goals that have been set in these historic times? Opportunity has us moving ahead at such a pace that any number of entities and individuals are scurrying to keep up with an overwhelming amount of information. HOW do we best assimilate this information. HOW do we best dispense this information. HOW do we get more involvement.

Our Past & Present...

In this issue of Historic-Hillyard.com we are proud to present yet another new feature.  The first issue of each month will feature a local business in "Business on Track".  The 2nd issue of the month will present " Our Past & Present."   This month's feature is a true 'find' - a 1939 issue of the  "Inland Empire News - Hillyard Hi-Jinks Souvenir program".  This particular issue commemorates the new Francis Ave. Bridge.  Inside you'll get to know many committee leaders from 66 years ago.  If you read on you'll see a lot of the same community concerns and issues that we see today.  And you'll chuckle as you read  the ad for 5-cent hamburgers.  You'll also have a 'WOW' moment when you see the ad for the "Capitol', which is still doing business today.  All sixteen pages can be seen here.  Have fun as you peruse the past. *PLEASE NOTE: the photos are large intentionally so the text can be read.  However, loading time may be lengthy depending upon your connection speed.  More >>
