EDITOR'S COMMENTARY

Way Out West
by Karen Tuininga

'Ya never know what you don't know, 'ya know? We're all cruising along, thinking that things will be quiet in Spokane for a while... No more RPS, no more lives lost in giant collapsing tanks of human waste... And BOOM! The you know what hits the fan and spews all over the tribe of the children of the sun.

Truth be told, I haven't been keeping right up on the tawdry details. Just unfolding the paper still feels like a potential slap in the face, so Leno and the rest of the free world are out. Being innocent of one of Washington's "worst kept secrets", I wonder just who felt the need to launch this assault. I'm appalled by the blitzkrieg style of representation that consists mainly of old information.
"Lightening War" seems to fit the circumstances, and the word carnage comes to mind. Surely the battle is on among the political hierarchy and District 1, Hillyard, will be directly affected by this shift in the paradigm of the Spokane universe.

But, perhaps I'm being hasty with my assessment. The investigative honor role has been called to the duty of dispensing truth and justice. Do we children dare to believe that these battles might commence with dignity, in the name of the many? Might there be reason, compassion and constraint? Might there be the scent of a rose way out west?

Editorial Comments do not necessarily portray the views of Historic-Hillyard.com.  The aim of this column is to inspire, embrace, and query our reading public.  Hillyard, like all neighborhood communities, has general issues as well as issues specific to this community. It's easy to talk about what's right and good with our neighborhood, it's leaders and general public, but it takes a bold stance to voice and bring to the forefront those negative and not so good issues of the same.

We encourage any and all responses to our Editorial Commentaries.  You may either submit an email to EditorialResponse@Historic-Hillyard.com or start a discussion in the Forum.
